Fadanelli was awarded the Premio Nacional de Literatura and the IMPAC CONARTE ITESM for this novel. He was also honoured by the Premio Nacional de Literatura Colima and nominated for the renowned Rómulo Gallegos Prize.

Orlando Malacara lacks life aspirations, except for one: he would like for two women to agree to live by his side for the rest of his days. And he would like to be an assassin. The first wish seems impossible because neither woman considers him to be a man who can offer them any kind of security. As far as being an assassin goes, Malacara doesn't hate anybody but he wouldn't mind too much if society were to disappear altogether. This is an open book in every sense. Every chapter opens a door into a vacuum: it is a provocation and also a grave.
